Villanova loses to Wisconsin Badgers on buzzer-beater

Villanova has lost to Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament championship game.

The Wildcats had a 41-39 lead heading into the third quarter, but Wisconsin scored three consecutive free throws to extend the lead to 63-59.

But Villanova tied the game on a layup by Zaza Pachulia with 3:02 left in the game. 

Villanova got a break when Scottie Wilbekin missed a layin on the left wing.

The Wildcats missed their first four shots from beyond the arc and then scored six straight points to take a 78-72 lead into the fourth. 

Wisconsin shot just over 40 percent from the field in the first half, but was only 3 of 20 from the free throw line. 

The Wildcats were led by J.P. Tokoto, who finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. 

After a timeout, Villanova missed its first five shots to start the second half. 

Wilbekin had seven points, but the Badgers took a commanding lead into halftime.

Villanova got the lead back when Wilbeki’s layup with 8:16 remaining in the half gave the Wildcats a 68-67 lead. 

Dakari Johnson added 13 points for Wisconsin. 

Walker, who led Wisconsin to a 68 percent shooting performance against Michigan State on Saturday, was held scoreless in his final three minutes of the game for the Wildcats.
