Memphis Grizzlies to hold training camp in South Dakota

Memphis (AP) The Memphis Grizzlies are set to hold a training camp outside of their preseason home in South Carolina for the first time in 2018-19.

The team announced Tuesday it will begin training camp on Sept. 1 in the town of Ocala, which has been the site of numerous road games and is located between the state’s two largest cities, Memphis and Spartanburg.

The Grizzlies have a home opener on Sept 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which plays in Spartanburg, the site where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in the 2015 NBA Finals.

The Grizzlies are scheduled to play four preseason games this season, including two on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans Pelicans and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Memphis is set to play seven games this year on the back of a $6 million, three-year, $4.1 million deal for its new point guard, Courtney Lee.

The team also announced Tuesday that it had signed former Indiana Pacers guard Josh Smith to a 10-day contract, giving the team a roster of 10 players.
